After 27 amazing years, 2016 marked the last ever Clothes Show at the NEC Birmingham. The only show of its kind in the world, featuring Europe’s largest catwalk showcase and a festival of fashion activity over 5 days. Celebrating what had been an incredible time in Birmingham, launching the careers of models, celebrities, music acts and fashion designers and giving over 10 million visitors the ultimate girls day out.

The first show launched during 1989 in London on the back of the 90s popular television programme, The Clothes Show, presented by Jeff Banks, Selena Scott and Caryn Franklin. Due to overwhelming visitor turn-out since 1990 the event has been held at the NEC Birmingham ever since. Designer Christopher Kane said:

”The Clothes Show made it feel more relevant, and also more accessible to the working class because of all the high street stuff. It definitely made me want to go study fashion at Central St Martins.”

Model agencies have frequently used the show as a hunting ground for young new talent. Many now famous faces have been plucked from the shows, including Holly Willoughby, Cat Deeley and Erin O’Connor amongst many more. Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Jodie Karen and Caprice have also walked the Fashion Theatre Catwalk. Caprice said:

“I’ve never experienced anything like it – Taking to the stage in front of 6,000 screaming people. It was amazing!”
